FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York senior forward Katie McGowan was named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 28, 2019.

York senior forward Katie McGowan led the Spartans to a pair of upset victories as York defeated Frostburg State and Christopher Newport this week. In the win over Frostburg State, McGowan went off with career-highs of 29 points and 15 rebounds while she also had three blocked shots and one assist. She was 12-for-22 from the field including 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-6 from the line. In the Saturday victory over #22 CNU, McGowan tallied 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, four steals, and a blocked shot in her 27 minutes of action. For the week, McGowan averaged 22 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocked shots per game. She shot 45.9% from the floor as the Spartans earned the pair of key conference wins.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Penn State Harrisburg's Shanique Mattis averaged a double-double in two games last week. The senior flirted with a double-double in the team's outing with St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, netting 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds to go along with five steals and three assists. The guard followed it up with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds in the Lions' victory at Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon. The Knights had previously been undefeated in conference play and were receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com poll. Mattis also swiped six steals at SVU. For the week, she averaged 14.5 points, 12 boards and 5.5 steals per game...Salisbury's Kaylee Otlowski averaged a double-double in two games last week, with 10.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. She also recorded a double-double in a loss to Christopher Newport last Wednesday, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Otlowski also added two steals and four blocks in the 53-25 win over St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon...Frostburg State's Amanda Emory averaged a double-double in two Frostburg losses last week ... She averaged 13 ppg and 12 rpg in two road contests...Mary Washington's Jordan Pamlanye averaged a double double with 13.5 PPG and 10.0 rebounds per game as Mary Washington split with Southern Virginia and Frostburg this week. She scored 13 points with seven rebounds against SVU, and then tallied 14 points, 13 rebounds,and a pair of assists in a win over Frostburg. She shot 56.3% for the week from the floor...Despite going 1-1 for the week, Southern Virginia's Katie Garrish collected a new career-high with 20 rebounds in the Knights 64-53 loss at home to Penn State-Harrisburg. For the week she averages 11.5 points per game with 15 rebounds, 5.5 steals and 4 blocks.
