Christopher Newport earned a decisive 79-52 neutral site victory at Gettysburg over Mount Saint Mary (NY) in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday evening, advancing to next week's sectional round for the fourth straight season. The Captains will face Scranton in the Round of 16 next weekend after Scranton defeated Johns Hopkins, 59-45.

CNU advanced behind a pair of 18-point performances from Jessica Foster and Natalie Terwilliger, who recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds. The Captains fired 40.7 percent from beyond the arc in the victory connecting on 11-of-27 opportunities. Coach Bill Broderick's defense held Mt. St. Mary to only 29.2 percent shooting and owned the points off turnovers category by a 24-10 margin.

The Captains jumped out to an early lead and led by 15 points at the half as the defense kept MSM to 23.5 percent in the first twenty minuteswith 12 turnovers. Sectional round action will begin with the round of 16 on Friday, March 8th followed by national quarterfinal contests on Saturday, March 9th.
