Southern Virginia's Christensen Claims CAC Women's Hoops Weekly Recognition

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2019 women's basketball season. Southern Virginia junior forward Savanna Christensen collected CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week recognition.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Savanna Christensen - Southern Virginia

Southern Virginia junior forward Savanna Christensen guided the Knights to a perfect weekend at the Pat Deacon Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. The juniors 18.5 points per game, eight rebounds, 4.5 assists per game and two blocks earned her the tournament's most valuable player honors. She shot 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the floor while producing from behind the arc at a 40 percent clip. She produced a season-high five assists in the Knights 68-56 win over the Scots. After last weekends game, Christensen has reached double figures in scoring in all five games she has played this season. The pair of Southern Virginia victories over Redlands and Maryville (Tenn.) extend their win-streak to five games.

LEAGUE NOTES

Salisbury sophomore Kaylee Otlowski started and logged 34 minutes in a win over Wesley College last Tuesday, leading her team with 20 points and nine rebounds. The forwards also added six assists and two steals to help lead her team to a 79-36 victory...Kiana Kirkland helped lead Christopher Newport to a pair of wins this week as the Captains improved to 6-3 on the season ... Led team in scoring with 12.5 points per game ... Added 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals in the two wins ... Played just 17.5 minutes per game while filling the stat sheet including a near double-double in just 15 minutes against Methodist (12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 1 block)...Maddie Shifflett led Mary Washington to a 66-62 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Tuesday, scoring 20 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor and a 4-4 performance from the free throw line. She also tied for the team lead with nine rebounds, and added a pair of steals. For the season, Shifflett is shooting 31-46 (67.4%) from inside the three point arc, averaging 15.3 PPG...
