Christopher Newport Jumps Out to Commanding Lead at Inaugural CAC Women's Golf Championship

Christopher Newport jumped out to a commanding day one lead at the inaugural CAC Women's Golf Championship on Thursday at the Palmer Course at Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va. The Captains totaled a team score of +38 to seize control of first place. 

York is in second place after the opening 18 holes at +93, with Southern Virginia in third place at +152. 

CNU was led by Erica Whitehouse, who posted a score of one-over 73 to take a commanding advantage of her own on the individual leaderboard. The Captains were steady across the board in Thursday's opening round of the three-day event, with CNU claiming the top five placings after day one. Cameron Cook sits in second place at 10-over 82, followed by Katie Thome (84), Harper Lurie (87), and Abbey Forde (89). 

York was paced by Keri Mahoney's 93, while Bailey Rusick posted the top score for Southern Virginia with a 97.
