Salisbury's Jim Nestor Named IWLCA Regional Coach Of The Year
Salisbury University head women's lacrosse coach Jim
Nestor was recently named Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse
Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Chesapeake Region Coach of
the Year.
Nestor led Salisbury to a 19-3 overall record in 2011, including an
8-0 record in the Capital Athletic Conference. The Sea Gulls
captured the CAC regular season and tournament
championship, allowing the program to make its ninth-straight
and 12th overall NCAA tournament appearance. SU saw its season come
to an end with a 14-13 setback to eventual national champion,
Gettysburg College, in the Region Final of the Salisbury
Regional.
Salisbury finished with the nation's 15th best scoring offense
in 2011 at 15.41 goals per game; the defense was just as good, as
the group limited opponents to just 7.23 goals per game, which was
eighth best in all of Division III.
Nestor had two student-athletes garner IWLCA All-American accolades
in seniors Trish DiGirolomo and Liz
Filgueras.
This marks the seventh time in Nestor's tenure at SU that he has
been honored as the Chesapeake Region Coach of the Year (2004, '05,
'07, '08, '09, '10, '11).
Nestor, a 1990 graduate of Salisbury University, has posted a
176-23 record in 10 seasons at the helm for the Salisbury
University women's lacrosse program.
