Marymount's Tancy Weatherford And York's Katie Vautier Tabbed As CAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Award Winners

Marymount junior midfielder TANCY WEATHERFORD and York sophomore KATIE VAUTIER were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Weatherford was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 12 goals and collecting 16 draw controls in two CAC contests. She found the back of the net five times and had eight draw controls against 17th-ranked Mary Washington, then added seven goals and one assist along with eight more draw controls in MU’s victory against Wesley, which kept the Saints in the running for a CAC playoff berth. Vautier was picked as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for her contributions in three victories last week, including CAC wins over Stevenson and Hood. She contributed eight ground balls, seven caused turnovers and four draw controls as well as a strong defensive effort for the Spartans.

Mary Washington junior attack CATHERINE KENNEDY and UMW junior goalie DANIELLE GUIGLI were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Kennedy was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after providing the spark in the Eagles’ near-upset of 10th-ranked Williams, scoring two goals and dishing out three assists in a 9-8 setback, then totaled seven points (3 G, 4 A) in Saturday’s CAC victory over St. Mary’s to move the Eagles into second place in the conference standings. Guigli was picked as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after stallwart performances on defense for the 18th-ranked Eagles. She started the week registering 14 saves (60.9%) in a one-goal loss to 10th-ranked Williams, then equaled that total with a 66.7 save percentage Saturday against CAC rival St. Mary’s. She also added three ground balls in each game.
York's Kim Wayson And Mary Washington's Kirsten West Picked For CAC Weekly Women's Lacrosse Honors

York sophomore forward KIM WAYSON and Mary Washington junior midfielder KIRSTEN WEST were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Wayson exploded for 16 points in a pair of victories last week, including a CAC decision against Marymount. She tied a season-high with nine points on six goals and three helpers against the Saints. She added four goals and three assists in a weekend non-conference win against St. Vincent. West helped 16th-ranked Mary Washington to a 26-9 win at Wesley, contributing four draw controls, two ground balls, and forcing four Wolverine turnovers, as the Eagles allowed single-digit goals in the conference tilt. In addition, she also scored a season-high four goals and added an assist in doubling her season point total.
Hood's Abby Dyjack And Salisbury's Trish DiGirolomo Selected For CAC Women's Lacrosse Honors

Salisbury senior attack TRISH DiGIROLOMO and Hood senior defender ABBY DYJACK were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. In three Salisbury victories, including a pair of wins vs. nationally-ranked foes, DiGirolomo piled up 18 points for the undefeated and top-ranked Sea Gulls. Salisbury opened the week with a win over 18th-ranked CAC rival Mary Washington, and DiGirolomo chipped in three goals and two assists. Saturday, she tallied a goal and four helpers in Salisbury’s win at 11th-ranked Washington & Lee. She finished the week with four goals and four assists in Sunday’s 15-8 victory at Roanoke. Dyjack had a strong defensive week with 12 ground balls and nine forced turnovers for the Blazers, who registered a pair of home non-conference victories. Dyjack’s best effort was Saturday’s three-goal win over Neumann, when she contriburted seven ground balls and six forced turnovers.
Stevenson Junior Jenny Schroeder And York Sophomore Kim Wayson Gain Weekly Women's Lacrosse Awards

York sophomore attack KIM WAYSON and Stevenson junior goalkeeper JENNY SCHROEDER were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Wayson found the back of the net 11 times and added an assist in two games during YCP’s Spring Break trip. She scored six goals, including three in the second half, in helping the Spartans gain a come-from-behind victory over Oneonta State. She scored the game-tying goal vs. Oneonta early in the second half. She also had six points in YCP’s victory over RIT, including all five in the first half as the Spartans raced out to an 11-0 halftime lead. Schroeder allowed just nine goals in two games, compiling a 65.4 save percentage, in helping the Mustangs to a pair of victories. She held CAC rival Wesley to three goals in a midweek showdown, then rejected 11 shots in a tense one-goal win Saturday against Dickinson.
St. Mary's Sr. Aubrey Mirkin And Salisbury Sr. Julie Ann Caulfield Selected For Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

St. Mary’s senior midfielder AUBREY MIRKIN and Salisbury senior goalkeeper JULIE ANN CAULFIELD were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Mirkin scored three goals, added a career-high three assists in a midweek CAC victory over Wesley, then contributed two goals and a career-high five assists for a career-high seven points in Saturday’s win over Frostburg State. She also checked in with six draw controls, nine ground balls and five caused turnovers in the two CAC victories. Caulfield led the defending national champion Sea Gulls to a win over 2010 NCAA Tournament team Elizabethtown, rejecting 11 of 24 shots for a .571 save percentage.

Stevenson senior attack MEGAN WEISS (Odenton, Md./Seton) and York sophomore defender JORDAN HALL (Riva, Md./South River) were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 21, 2011. Weiss scored three goals in Stevenson’s season-opening victory at St. Mary’s, including the game-winner with six seconds left in the first overtime as the Mustangs topped the Seahawks for the first time in 14 tries. Hall led York’s season-opening victory at Wesley by stabilizing a defense that allowed just four goals on 12 shots to the host Wolverines. In her first collegiate start, Hall caused two turnovers and added a ground ball.
Lauriann Parker And Colleen Simpson Sweep Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards For St. Mary's
St. Mary’s sophomore midfielder LAURIANN PARKER and junior goalie COLLEEN SIMPSON were named the CAC Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Parker was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six points in each game this week on three goals and nine assists as the Seahawks moved into position to host a CAC first-round playoff game. Parker had two goals and four assists in a mid-week win over Frostburg State, then recorded three of her five assists during a 3-0 run that broke an 8-8 tie and lifted SMC to a 12-10 victory over York. Simpson was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after she opened the week with a partial-game scoreless effort in a CAC win against Hood, followed by a strong performance in Saturday’s win against York. Simpson recorded 11 saves on 21 shots and held YCP’s leading scorer to just two goals, including a game-clinching stop on a free possession with just over a minute left to maintain a two-goal lead.
