York Drops NCAA Quarterfinal Matchup Against Middlebury, 10-8

The 12th-ranked York women's lacrosse team's historic season came to a close on Sunday afternoon as the Spartans dropped a 10-8 decision to sixth-ranked Middlebury in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Gettysburg, Pa. The Elite Eight trip was the first in program history for York, which concludes its season at 15-6.

Middlebury advances to the Final Four next weekend at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., where they will meet SUNY Cortland. Franklin & Marshall and Trinity (Conn.) will square off in the other national semifinal.

York build early leads of 2-1 and 3-2 on scores from Katelyn Cattrano and Sarah Castle, but Middlebury reeled off five straight goals to close out the first half, seizing a 7-3 edge at the intermission.

The Spartans battled back late in the second half, cutting the deficit to two, 10-8, with just 1:23 remaining, but were unable to get any closer and ultimately fell by the two-goal margin.

Jayme Verman tallied two goals and an assist for York, Allison Kolacy registered one goal, two assists and three ground balls, and Cattrano had two scores. Rachel Donovan turned back seven shots in net for the Spartans.
