York Sophomore Devin Hursey and Junior Nicole Clauter Sweep CAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York sophomore Devin Hursey and junior Nicole Clauter swept the CAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for April 16, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

York sophomore Devin Hursey claimed CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after tallying 14 points on five goals and nine assists in wins over St. Mary's and Christopher Newport. Hursey started the week with a school-record-tying 11 points vs. St. Mary's, notching a school-record nine assists along with two goals in a 22-12 victory. She closed out the week with three goals in the Spartans' 21-12 triumph over CNU. Hursey went 2-for-5 at free position shots in the victory.

 

Defensive Player of the Week

York junior defender Nicole Clauter earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the third time this year afer totaling 27 draw controls, nine ground balls and five caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Spartans. Clauter opened the week with a school-record 14 draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in a road win at St. Mary's. She followed that with 13 draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers in a victory over Christopher Newport. Clauter leads the CAC in draw controls this season with 74.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury is ranked No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings, while York (No. 7) and Mary Washington (No. 9) each remained in the top-10 ... Christopher Newport junior Sarah Culver led the Captains with eight goals during the week after registering hat-tricks in both of her appearances. She kicked off the week with five goals, including three free-position strikes, at No. 10 Mary Washington. Three days later, she came back with three more goals at No. 7 York on Saturday. Culver has now posted at least three goals in three straight appearances and has 11 total hat-tricks this year ... Frostburg State junior Morgan Cavey scored eight goals and handed out an assist in a 1-1 week for the Bobcats ... Sophomore Paige Haskins led Mary Washington with eight goals for the week, scoring five times in a 14-10 win over CNU, and adding three goals in an 11-10 loss at No. 1 Salisbury. She has 24 goals on the season ... In one game last week, Marymount senior Abby Wescott put away seven points on four goals and three assists in a 17-3 victory over Wesley. Junior goalkeeper Holly Reik played just the first half of the lone game last week, giving up just two goals and making seven saves in a 17-3 victory over Wesley ... Salisbury senior Krissy Murphy tallied two goals and three assists in Salisbury's 11-10 comeback victory over Mary Washington. Murphy's three assists came in the final six minutes of the game, including the assist on the game-winning goal. Senior goalkeeper Gianna Falcone made nine saves to help Salisbury overcome a five-goal deficit in the second half and defeat Mary Washington. The senior also came up with a huge caused turnover, intercepting a Mary Washington pass that led to the game-winner for the Sea Gulls. Falcone collected three ground balls in the victory ... Southern Virginia freshman Caiti Knowles led the Knights with five goals last week, including a career-high with three goals against Wesley. She posted a 100% shooting percentage, converting on all five shot attempts ... Maddison Cypher tallied a pair of goals, five assists and caused two turnovers in Wesley's 15-14 win over Southern Virginia.
