Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Sarah Culver was honored as the CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after registering seven goals in the Captains' 19-16 victory over St. Mary's in the first round of the CAC Tournament on Saturday. Four of her goals came in the second half, including the go-ahead goal midway through the period, before she came back with the final two tallies to close out the contest. Three of her strikes came from the eight-meter arc, giving her 18 free-position goals this season. That stands as a new program record, topping the previous mark of 17 set by Meaghan Galvin in 2014. Along with her work on the offensive end, Culver also collected a game-high seven draw controls. With that performance, she became the first player in program history to secure seven goals and seven draw controls in a single contest.

Salisbury junior Courtney Fegan earned CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades after scoring a career-high seven goals in the third-ranked Sea Gulls' 20-8 win over St. Mary's in their regular season finale last Wednesday. Fegan added six draw controls and four ground balls in the victory.

Christopher Newport sophomore Mackenzie Regen was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after forcing six turnovers and collecting a career-high four ground balls in the Captains' CAC first round victory against St. Mary's. Regen's six caused turnovers equaled the third-highest single-game total in CNU history, and were the most for a Captains since 2006.

The 2018 CAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament began on Saturday, with No. 3 Mary Washington and No. 4 Christopher Newport registering home wins in the first round ... The CAC semifinals will take place on Wednesday, with No. 1 Salisbury hosting No. 4 CNU and No. 2 York hosting No. 3 UMW ... Three CAC teams are ranked in top-10 of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings  - Salisbury (No. 3) York (No. 5) and Mary Washington (No. 8) ... Julia Albert led Mary Washington to a 15-12 win at No. 15 Catholic on Wednesday, with four goals and two assists, and added a goal and two assists in the CAC Tournament first round victory over Marymount. Albert has scored 37 goals and added 14 assists this season for the 15-3 Eagles ... Gabby Beese led St. Mary's this past week with nine points on a goal and eight assists. Beese started the week with a goal and three assists plus two ground balls against No. 3 Salisbury before ending her career with a career-best five helpers at Christopher Newport. Maribeth Anderson scooped up a season-best five ground balls against No. 3 Salisbury before adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers at Christopher Newport ... Salisbury junior Martha Hutzell caused three turnovers, collected two ground balls, and came up with six draw controls in Salisbury's 20-8 win over St. Mary's in the regular season finale. Hutzell has anchored a Sea Gull defense that has surrendered eight or fewer goals 11 times this season, leading to a league-low 6.69 goals-against average ... Southern Virginia sophomore Lauren Thatcher dished a career-high four assists in a win over Hollins and was one of 17 players to score a goal for the Knights ... York sophomore Alexis Hart led the Spartans to a season-ending win over Marymount in York's lone game for the week. Hart picked up six draw controls and also caused one Saint turnover in York's 15-5 win over the Saints. Junior Caitlin Rankin totaled four points on three goals and an assist.
