Marymount Senior Abby Wescott and Salisbury Senior Allie Hynson Honored as CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Marymount senior Abby Wescott and Salisbury senior Allie Hynson were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 26, 2018.

Marymount senior Abby Wescott was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after notching six goals and six assists in a 2-0 week for the Saints. Wescott opened the week with two goals and two assists in a CAC win over Southern Virginia. She followed that up with a game-high eight points on four goals and four assists in a 17-13 victory over Widener. Of her six goals on the week, four were free-position, as she finished a perfect 4-for-4 on free position shots throughout the week. She connected on 85.7% of her shots and added three draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover during the two games.

Salisbury senior Allie Hynson secured CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after totaling five caused turnovers, five ground balls and 10 draw controls in a 2-0 start to the season for the Sea Gulls. The midfielder opened the year with three caused turnovers, three ground balls and seven draw controls in a comeback win at Stevenson. In a win against No. 14 Catholic, Hynson caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls while also securing three draw controls.

Four CAC women's lacrosse teams are ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings - Salisbury and York are tied for No. 6, Mary Washington is tied for No. 11, and St. Mary's is No. 21 ... Christopher Newport opened the year 1-1. Catie Chess led the Captains with seven points and 13 draw controls last week ... Frostburg State junior Morgan Cavey posted her first six-goal game of her career in Frostburg's 21-14 loss at Randolph-Macon ... Junior Mackenzie Maguire has led Mary Washington to a 3-0 start, including a season-opening win over No. 4 Washington & Lee. Maguire has scored 10 points through three contests, with six goals and four assists. She had two goals and an assist in a 12-11 win at W&L, and added a goal and three assists in a win over Shenandoah. She had three scores as UMW won at Lynchburg on Saturday. Junior goalie Shannon Bremer, called to starting duty after All-American Hanna Ashby was injured in pregame warmups of the opener, has Mary Washington off to a 3-0 start. She has posted 27 saves and an 8.67 goals against average in three wins for UMW, including nine saves at Washington & Lee and 11 saves in an 18-6 win over Shenandoah ... Marymount freshman Caroline Wolford forced a game-high four turnovers and scooped up a game-high three ground balls in the Saints' season-opening win over Southern Virginia ... St. Mary's junior Caitlin Katchmar put up nine points on seven goals and two assists in leading St. Mary's to a 2-0 season-opening week. Katchmar started off the week with her second career hat trick plus a career-best four draw controls in an upset win over No. 4 Washington & Lee. She followed that up with a second-straight hat trick as Katchmar tallied career- and game-highs of four goals, two assists, and six points plus two draw controls in a win at McDaniel. Katchmar was perfect on the eight-meter arc, going 5-for-5 on free-position shots, including scoring a career-best three free-position goals at McDaniel. Goalkeeper Emma Brown started the week with a career-best 12 saves against Washington & Lee, including two critical saves in the final 14 seconds to prevent overtime. She then put up seven stops, caused a career-high three turnovers, and picked up three ground balls in a win at McDaniel, holding the Green Terror to just 2-of-10 on free-position shots ... Salisbury senior Krissy Murphy recorded six points in the Sea Gulls' first two games to help the Sea Gulls start the season 2-0. In an 11-10 overtime win at Stevenson, Murphy tallied two goals and two assists. In a 13-9 win against No. 14 Catholic, the senior had a goal and an assist ... Southern Virginia sophomore Hannah King scored a hat trick in this week's season opener ... Wesley's Fallon Fore scored six goals and three assists to total nine points in Wesley's record-breaking 25-3 win over Cedar Crest. Fore also won three draws, picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Francesca Benitez caused four turnovers, scooped up four ground balls, won two draws, scored a goal and assisted on a goal vs. Cedar Crest. Benitez helped the Wesley defense blank Cedar Crest in the second half for their first win of the season ... York opened the 2018 season with a 15-4 win over Montclair State. Meghan Fox notched six points on four goals and two assists, while Nicole Clauter collected three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers as the Spartan defense limited Montclair State to 13 overall shots and seven shots on goal.
