Salisbury, Mary Washington & York Cruise Into NCAA Women's Lacrosse Sweet 16

NCAA Women's Lacrosse Bracket

For the first time in conference history, three CAC women's lacrosse teams will compete in the NCAA Sweet 16 as Salisbury, Mary Washington, and York cruised to second-round victories at home on Sunday afternoon.

In Salisbury, Md., second-ranked Salisbury used a 13-goal first half to defeat Meredith, 19-11. Gabrielle Mongno and Emma Skoglund combined for six first half goals, and 10 in the game, to lead the Salisbury (19-1) offense past the sixth ranked defense in Division III, as Meredith (16-5) came in with a goals-against average of 5.84. The Sea Gulls will take on Denison (17-2) in the round of 16 on Saturday.

In Fredericksburg, Va., fifth-ranked Mary Washington knocked off Mount Union, 18-6, to spoil their perfect season and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. Julia Albert led the team with five goals and two assists. The Eagles (17-4) will take on third-ranked Gettysburg (17-2) in the next round.

In York, Pa., eighth-ranked York locked down Washington & Lee and captured a 10-3 win in the NCAA Tournament second round at Kinsley Field. Charlotte Wright made 11 saves and held the Generals scoreless until 11:20 remaining in the second half. The Spartans are now 5-0 all-time at Kinsley Field in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans (14-4) will meet Catholic (15-6) in Saturday's third round.

All third round and quarterfinal sites will be announced by the NCAA early this week.
