York, Mary Wash & CNU Victorious in CAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament First Round

York, Mary Washington and Christopher Newport all were victorious in first round matches to kickoff the CAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday (April 27). Salisbury, the top seed who received a first-round bye, will host No. 5 CNU, while No. 2 York welcomes No. 3 Mary Washington in the semifinal round slated for Tuesday, April 30.

The CNU Captains survived a late surge from the St. Mary's Seahawks to pick up the 14-13 win. SMC trailed 14-6 midway through the second half before ending the match on a 7-0 run before time expired. Sarah Culver paced CNU with six goals in the contest, while Caitlin Katchmar tallied five for the Seahawks.

The UMW Eagles posted an impressive 21-4 victory over Frostburg State as Mary Wash controlled the first half outscoring the Bobcats 15-2. The Eagles held a 34-12 shots advantage in the win, including 18-9 on draw controls.

The York Spartans also cruised to a first round victory as the home team led Southern Virginia by a 15-1 count at the break. Six players scored at least two goals for York, including Baleigh Bradley who added four assists as well. Draw controls favored York by a 20-4 edge along with shot attempts, 33-6.

The CAC Championship is set for Saturday, May 4, with the conference champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
