FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport's Sarah Culver & Kaitlyn Ready were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 4, 2019.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior attacker Sarah Culver led the Captains with 10 goals during the week, bumping her league-leading total to 22 on the season. Her finest performance came on Saturday when she notched seven goals against Shenandoah, which equaled her career-high and matched the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Against the Hornets, she scored five consecutive goals for the Captains during an eight-minute stretch early in the first half to put the game out-of-reach. Along with her offensive efforts, she also matched her career-high with eight draw controls. Earlier in the week, Culver also added a hat-trick during a victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. With her two draw controls against the Marlins, she also became just the ninth player in program history to reach 100 for her career.

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Ready picked up a pair of victories while recording a .714 save percentage against Virginia Wesleyan and Shenandoah. During the two contests, she combined to record 15 saves while allowing just six goals. Six of her stops came against free-position attempts, including four during the squad's victory over Shenandoah. In addition to her 15 stops, she also contributed four ground balls and a caused turnover during the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's Molly Biggers capped a two-game week with seven goals and one assist for Frostburg ... In FSU's 14-11 over Bridgewater, she scored six goals to power the offense...St. Mary's Caitlin Katchmar led the Seahawks on the offensive end with nine poins off of seven goals and two assists. Additionally, Katchmar scooped up one ground ball and one draw control...Salisbury's Gianna Demato tallied a team-best four goals in Salisbury's loss against No. 8 Washington and Lee. She added three ground balls and one draw control in the game. Demato also caused two turnovers, scooped up three ground balls, and came up with one draw control in Saturday's game against No. 8 Washington and Lee....Mary Washington's Julia Albert scored a team-high five goals as #7 Mary Washington topped Randolph-Macon, 16-7, on Tuesday. Albert has posted 14 goals in four games this season...Southern Virginia's Natalie Rice finished at goal eight times for the week while tacking on two assists for 10 points shooting 50 percent from the field. She also led the team in ground balls collecting 18 total, causing four turnovers...St. Mary's Alyssa Demski led the Seahawk defense with six ground balls and caused two tunrovers...York's Nicole Clauter had another big game for the Green and White in the setback against #10 Franklin & Marshall. Clauter led the Spartans with eight draw controls and a caused turnover in the game against the Diplomats. For the year, Clauter has collected 20 draw controls in just three games as she leads the league in draws per game (6.7) while she has also caused seven opponent turnovers...Mary Washington's Hanna Ashby led Mary Washington past Randolph-Macon, 16-7, on Tuesday, making eight saves in improving to 4-0 on the season. She has logged better than a 50% save percentage in each of the Eagle wins this season? Senior Julia Albert scored a team-high five goals as #7 Mary Washington topped Randolph-Macon, 16-7, on Tuesday. Albert has posted 14 goals in four games this season...Southern Virginia's Mary-Kate Johnson anchored the Knights defense as they continue their current winning streak and going a perfect 2-0 for the week. She collected four saves while only allowing three goals for the week combined.
