Salisbury & York Advance to NCAA Women's Lacrosse Regional Championship

Salisbury and York both earned victories to continue their 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament runs on Saturday (May 18) afternoon, as the Sea Gulls defeated Colorado College 18-8, while the Spartans prevailed over St. John Fisher 14-11. Both programs will advance to Sunday's (May 19) national quarterfinal contests. 

Salisbury dominated the contest in the early goings as the Sea Gulls jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the 15:49 mark of the first half. SU would lead 13-4 at the break before running away with the 18-8 victory and a spot in the regional championship match.

The Sea Gulls were guided by Gabby Mongno's four goals, while Lydia McNulty and Emma Skoglund recorded three goals apiece with Gianna Demato adding a pair of goals and three assists in the victory. 

York used a 9-4 first half adavantage to prevail over a stingy St. John Fisher squad at host Tufts. The Spartans extended their lead in the second half to 11-5 to put the contest out of reach. 

St. John Fisher made only two saves in the contest, while Abby Smith recorded 11 saves in the win. York earned a 19-8 edge in draw controls and earned the win despite 16 turnovers to just seven for SJF. Megan Fox was impressive in the win with five goals and two assists, while Regan Cook posted three goals. CAC Player of the Year Nicole Clauter addedd 11 draw controls for the Spartans.

Salisbury and York will both prepare for Sunday's (May 19) NCAA Women's Lacrosse Regional Championship contests. The Sea Gulls will host Amherst at 1 p.m., while York will take on host school Tufts at 4 p.m. for a spot in the national semifinals.
