Interim Athletic Director Michael Weinstock announced the hiring of Sarah Gumina as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Gallaudet Athletics.

Coach Gumina graduated from Apopka High School in Orlando, FL where she lettered in soccer, softball, and cross-country. Coach Gumina also held the record for most goals scored in a high school soccer career. She was chosen for the All-State team, All-County and was a member of the Florida State Olympic Development Program (ODP).

Sarah finished her high school career with a scholarship to the University of Central Florida in Orlando under Coach Karen Richter where she played for two years before transferring to the University of South Florida in Tampa under Coach Logan Fleck. After finishing her college career she played one year of semi-pro soccer in the USL W-League with the Tampa Bay Extreme.

Coach Gumina moved to Maryland in 2001 to become the assistant coach for Gallaudet Women's Soccer under then-Head Coach Elijah Gold. In 2002, she became the head coach and led the team to Gallaudet's first win in a CAC match, broke a school record by scoring 42 goals in a season, and tied the school record of seven wins.

Currently Coach Gumina is completing her BS degree in Deaf Studies at Towson University. She works as a certified sign language interpreter and is presently a member of the Maryland Pride (WPSL) women's semi-pro league.

Coach Gumina has a firm philosophy on the priorities of a student-athlete. Academics should be at the forefront of a student's college career followed closely by their athletic responsibilities. While it can be a difficult balancing act, it is imperative that the student-athlete maintains 100% commitment to both.

Interim Athletic Director Weinstock commented: "I'm excited in regards to the level of experience that Coach Gumina brings; I'm happy to have her back, and I believe she will revolutionize our soccer program!"

Coach Gumina will assume her duties effective immediately.
