Mary Washington Women's Soccer Team Wins In American Cancer Society Fundraiser

Members of the University of Mary Washington's women's soccer program went "Cleats up on Cancer" by raising $9,293 in donations for the American Cancer Society.

On May 18th, members of the team participated in the Historic Half: Marine Corps 1/2 Marathon in downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia. Each individual on the team ran in memory
of/or support of a friend or family member that has lost, is battling or has defeated cancer.

"What started out as a small charity run turned into something very special and satisfying for each of these young women", said UMW head coach Corey Hewson.

"Their dedication, to not only the training for this event, but to raising a substantial amount of money for the American Cancer Society has been tremendous to watch.  The only better sight might have been to see the pride on their faces as they wore their finisher medal around their necks."
