Senior Midfielder Sarah Grady Leads Three St. Mary's Women's Soccer Players Onto The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
Senior midfielder Sarah Grady was one of three St. Mary's women's soccer players named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II team. It is the second-straight year Grady was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II team.
Grady was a first-team selection by the District II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She was joined on the All-District II team by SMC senior Katie Klotz and senior goalie Marie Oben.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, a starter or significant reserve on their team and carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.
District II includes players from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA teams from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
As a first-team honoree, Grady will advance to the national Academic All-America ballot. Results of the national voting will be announced later this month.
Grady, Klotz and Oben have combined to lead SMC to a 10-2-3 overall record. The Seahawks finished second in the CAC regular-season standings and will host sixth-seeded Hood in the conference tournament semifinals on Tuesday (11/4).
Grady and Klotz helped the SMC defense limit opponents to just 16 goals in 15 games this season. Klotz also contributed one goal, the game-winner in a 4-0 early-season win over McDaniel, and an assist for three points this season. Oben recorded an 8-2-1 overall record in 12 games this season (all starts). She boasts a 0.97 goals against average and an .844 save percentage.
