Salisbury Women's Soccer Fals To Wheaton (Mass.), 1-0, In Opening Round Of NCAA Tournament
The Salisbury University women's soccer team lost a 1-0 contest against Wheaton (Mass.) College in the first round of the NCAA tournament at William Smith College on Saturday.
Wheaton's Kaitlyn Mawicke played a free kick into the box where Samantha Cronin got her head on the ball sending it past freshman goalkeeper Michelle Conrad in the 59th minute for the game-winning goal.
In the first 45 minutes of play, Salisbury (13-6-2) held the
advantage statistically taking seven shots, compared to Wheaton's
(16-3-3) two, but was unable to produce a goal. The Sea Gulls had
the most sustained pressure and best offensive flurry late in the
first half when senior Sarah Jessilonis hit the post
in the 40th minute and freshman Morgan Brasch nearly put home
a Jessilonis corner kick just a minute later.
Salisbury led in shots, 13-9, shots on goal, 5-3, and corner kicks, 5-4.
Erin Cawley earned the victory in the net for Lyons, making five saves. Conrad took the loss, stopping one shot for the Sea Gulls.
