INTRODUCING ... Mary Washington Senior Women's Soccer Midfielder Tina Rader

Mary Washington senior midfielder Tina Rader likes to keep it simple.  Give the “Packer-Backer” a book, beach, basketball or I-pod, and she’s happy.  She’s also a pretty solid soccer player, having played since she was six.  Rader  has 13 career goals as a four-year letterwinner for the Eagles, who will visit York Wednesday in the semifinal round of the 2013 CAC playoffs.  INTRODUCING … Tina Rader.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?  I've been playing soccer since I was six years old.  I played on the same club team my whole life, played varsity in high school, then tried out for UMW in 2010.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   I am a history major, the most important thing I've learned is how to write a good paper.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is probably the dining hall.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?   I'm kind of a beach person.  When in doubt, go to the beach.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?   I am in the photography club and I love playing on every intramural sports team.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.   My most memorable experience is probably beating St Mary's in PKs last season in the first round of CAC playoffs.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?   I think the majority of college students face financial challenges.  High tuition and book rates can create problems for both the student and their families financially.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?  I would make everyone open-minded.  If people could see things from other perspectives, I think many of our problems would maybe not be solved or fixed but diminished.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?   The most influential people in my life are my friends and my teammates.  They are who I spend most of my time with, who I trust, and who rely on to keep me in line.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?   My favorite forms of entertainment are definitely shooting hoops, listening to music and reading.  The only things I need in life to keep me occupied are a basketball, my i-pod, and a book.

What is your favorite source of information (TV, book, magazine, website, friends in dining hall, etc.)?   I pretty much rely on family and friends to keep me in the loop.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?   My one piece of advice for elementary schools children is to play outside.  I think it's important for every kid whether athletic or not to take time every day to just be a kid, explore, and get some fresh air.  Also always choose Crayola, never Rose Art.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?   My favorite sports team is the Green Bay Packers.  My family is from Wisconsin, it's pretty much Packers or die in my household.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?    First I'd like to have dinner with Shakira cause she's the bomb and I want to learn how to dance.  Then, I’d like to have dinner with Bob Dylan because he's a musical genius and could teach me the harmonica.  Also, I’d like to have dinner with Audrey Hepburn because I think she was one of the most interesting people and one of the best role models for women.  Finally, I’d like to have dinner with Sherlock Holmes because he is the smartest, coolest fictional character ever.  (that's four but I couldn't decide)
