York Women's Soccer Advances Past Carnegie Mellon Into Second Round of NCAA Tournament; Christopher Newport Falls To Bowdoin

Defender Emily Cronise scored her fourth goal of the season and goalie Melanie Glessner registered her fifth shutout as York edged Carnegie Mellon, 1-0, in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.  Christopher Newport battled Bowdoin in the opening round, but was eliminated from the championship by a 3-1 decision.

The CAC Champion Spartans (13-4-3) entered the NCAA tournament, and got their first win in the NCAA tournament since 2007.  YCP took down the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon (9-5-2) 1-0.  York will battle regional tournament host Johns Hopkins in a second-round match Sunday in Baltimore at 1:30 p.m.

At Montclair, N.J., the regular-season champion Captains (14-4-2) got a first-half goal from Lindsay Mondlock, her first of the season.  But Bowdoin rallied for three goals in an 11-minute span midway through the second half to defeat CNU.
