Six CAC Women's Soccer Players Named to NSCAA Scholar All-East Team
Complete NSCAA All-Region Teams
Six CAC women's soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region Teams. Four Frostburg State student-athletes earned the honor, while Wesley and York each had one player earn the nod.
To qualify for the Scholar All-Region Team, a student-athlete must be a junior or higher with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average throughout his or her career. Additionally, the student-athlete must start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team.
York junior goalkeeper Melanie Glessner was a fourth team selection. Glessner helped the Spartans capture the 2013 CAC title, earning first-team All-CAC honors along the way. She posted an 11-4-3 record between the pipes for the Spartans, compiling five shutouts and a 0.64 goals against average in 20 games played. A two-time All-CAC pick, Glessner is a sociology and criminal justice major with a minor in mathematics, boasting a 3.93 GPA.
Wesley senior defender Samantha Lyon claimed honorable mention accolades, becoming the first Wolverine to earn the honor since 2008. Starting the last three seasons for Wesley, Lyon moved to the backfield from a midfield position in 2013 and tallied six goals and four assists for 16 points in her career. Lyon holds a 3.91 GPA while majoring in psychology.
A quartet of Frostburg State players also made their way
onto the squad. Seniors Adria Graham and
Courtney Mack, along with juniors
Stephanie Fazenbaker and Katie
Smith were all named to the honorable mention team.
Graham and Fazenbaker each carry a 3.96 GPA and the duo were
named Capital One Academic All-Americans for the second-straight
year this fall. Graham, an athletic training major, is a former
NSCAA All-American and two-time CAC Player of the Year. Fazenbaker,
a biology major, is a two-time All-CAC honoree and finished fourth
in the league in points scored (28) in 2013.
Mack and Smith round out the academic foursome for FSU. Mack
carries a 3.87 GPA and majors in exercise and sport science, while
Smith boasts a 3.79 GPA and is a political science major. On the
field, Mack is a two-time All-CAC selection, while Smith has
started the last 38 games in goal for the Bobcats and has collected
22 wins.
