St. Mary's Gillian Sawyer, Christopher Newport's Victoria Perry and Wesley's Natalie Trujillo Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

A trio of CAC women's soccer student-athletes - St. Mary's senior Gillian Sawyer, Christopher Newport junior Victoria Perry and Wesley junior Natalie Trujillo - were named to the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams on Thursday afternoon.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The All-District selection advances all three student-athletes to the Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in November.

St. Mary's Sawyer, a team captain, is a double major in biology and environmental studies with a minor in French. She has maintained a 3.58 cumulative grade point average and still finds the time to be involved with several campus extracurricular activities beyond soccer. Sawyer is a member of three national honor societies on campus – Chi Alpha Sigma, the national collegiate student-athlete honor society for juniors and seniors; Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society; and Tri-Beta, the national biological society.

A three-time member of the CAC All-Academic Team, she currently serves as the fellow for the school's newest academic discipline, environmental studies. Her free time is devoted to being a peer health educator and volunteering with Best Buddies and at the Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home.

On the pitch, Sawyer has been a three-year starter for the Seahawks. Despite not playing a single game as a rookie, she still ranks in the top 10 in the Seahawk record books in goals and points. Sawyer is tied for fifth with 31 goals and eighth with 71 points. She is a two-time second team conference all-star who holds the school's second-best single-season mark with 17 goals as well as the fourth-best single-season mark with 38 points, accomplishing both feats this season. Sawyer currently leads the conference in goals (17) and points (38) while ranking in the top 30 in Division III in the same categories.

CNU's Perry becomes the first-ever CNU women's soccer player to earn All-District honors. A psychology major with a minor in leadership studies, Perry carries a 3.59 cumulative GPA into her third year. She has twice earned Academic All-Conference honors as a leader in the classroom, while also excelling as a leader on the field as well.

Perry was the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and has followed up her strong sophomore season with another stellar year in 2015. She became just the third player in program history to record back-to-back 30-point seasons as she closed the regular season with 32 points on 13 goals and six assists. She is moving up the all-time scoring lists at CNU through just three seasons and has helped the Captains capture three straight regular season conference titles.

She native ranks 5th all-time with 77 career points, and tied for 6th all-time with 29 career goals. Her 19 career assists rank third best in program history while she is closing in on the all-time lead for game-winning goals, ranking second with 12.

Wesley's Trujillo boasts a cumulative GPA of 4.00 as a nursing major. Trujillo has started in all 17 of the Wolverines' games this season on the defensive back line. She has played a crucial role in the Wesley defense as the team's center back and led to five wins and one shutout.
