Top Seeds Christopher Newport and Frostburg State Advance to CAC Women's Soccer Title Game

Top-seeded Christopher Newport blanked fourth-seeded Mary Washington and second-seeded Frostburg State outlasted St. Mary's penalty kicks in Wednesday's CAC women's soccer semifinals, setting up a title-game showdown in Newport News, Va. on Saturday.

CNU blanked UMW 2-0 to move on to the championship round for the second time since joining the conference in 2013. The Captains previously reached the CAC final in 2013, where they fell in penalty kicks to York.

CNU senior Victoria Perry dished out two assists for the Captains, making her the program's all-time scoring leader with 104 points. That total ranks ninth in conference history. Sophomore Gabby Gillis netted the gamewinner just under seven minutes into the second half, and CNU held on for their 11th shutout this season.

Frostburg State edged out St. Mary's in penalty kicks in a 1-1 draw in Frostburg, Md., sending the Bobcats to the CAC championship game for the second time in the last three seasons and the fourth time in program history.

The Bobcats ousted the Seahawks 4-2 in penalty kicks to push through to the title game. Junior Melanie Bell knocked her attempt into the right side of the net to lift the Bobcats past visiting St. Mary's at Bobcat Stadium.

Saturday's game will be played as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's championship, also hosted by Christopher Newport. The CNU men will take on Mary Washington.
