Complete CoSIDA Women's Soccer Academic All-District Team

Christopher Newport sophomore forward Carson Pokorny and Frostburg State senior midfielder Melanie Bell have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes from eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First team All-District honorees, like Pokorny and Bell, advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.

To be nominated for the All-District award, student-athletes must carry a 3.30 GPA and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games. There are eight districts at the Division III level and district II consists of schools from Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia.

Frostburg State's Bell majors in law and society and carries an unblemished 4.0 GPA in the classroom. She has been named to the Dean's List in all six semesters at Frostburg and she is a three-time Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree. Earlier Thursday, Bell was also named to the All-CAC First Team for her outstanding play on the field. She has helped Frostburg to the ECAC Tournament with a 9-8-1 overall record and has found the net twice with one assist. She headed home the game-winning goal last week in Frostburg's 1-0 CAC Tournament semifinal win over rival Salisbury.

CNU's Pokorny posted a 4.00 cumulative GPA after her first year, majoring in biochemistry. A member of the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, Pokorny also earned second team All-Conference honors on the field as a freshman. This year, she has backed up that stellar performance with a first team All-Conference selection in her second year.

The Williamsburg, Va. native played in all 19 games with 18 starts this year, ranking third on the team in scoring with 24 total points. She scored a career-high six goals while also posting 12 assists, leading the league in helpers. Her 12 assists is tied for the second most for a single season in program history, and also currently ranks 20th nationally. She posted a 5-point performance against Berry College this year with 2 goals and an assist, and added a 4-point effort versus Marymount when she tied the program record with four helpers in a game.

For her career, the 5'2" forward has been a constant threat at the top of the Captains' dangerous attack. She has played in 37 and started 36 games while scoring 11 goals with 20 assists for 42 career points in her first two years. She has five career game-winning goals and has helped the Captains to the highest national ranking in program history.
