FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State sophomore Brooke Shehade and York freshman Jess Wieber were named the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 23, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Frostburg State sophomore Brooke Shehade was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after scoring all three of the Bobcats' goals in a 2-0 week. She began the week with two scores in the final 10 minutes of regulation in a 2-0 victory over Penn State Harrisburg. Shehade closed out the week with the game's only goal in the 49th minute of a 1-0 triumph against Salisbury. Shehade and the Bobcats have now won four straight, during which she has found the net six times. 

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

York freshman Jess Weiber was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after pitching a pair of shutouts last week to help the Spartans remain in the hunt for a CAC playoff spot. On Wednesday, Wieber blanked Wesley as she notched two saves in the win over the Wolverines. She followed that with one save in the 2-0 win over Southern Virginia on Saturday. Wieber finished the week with two shutouts in 180 minutes of action. For the season, Wieber has played 1168:38 minutes and owns a goals against average of 1.31 with a .782 save percentage. She has recorded 61 saves and has posted three shutouts for the year.

Christopher Newport is ranked in both national polls. The Captains are No. 5 in the D3soccer.com rankings and No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches poll ... In the first NCAA Regional Rankings of the year, CNU is ranked No. 2 in the South Atlantic Region ... CNU (8-0 CAC) locked up the CAC regular season title and the top seed in the postseason for the fifth straight year ... With one conference game remaining, Frostburg State (6-1-1) and Salisbury (6-2) have secured top-three seeds, while five teams are in the hunt for the final three playoff spots - Penn State Harrisburg (4-4), St. Mary's (3-3-2), Mary Washington (3-4-1), Southern Virginia (3-4-1), and York (3-4-1) ... CNU sophomore defender Keiley McCarthy played all but one minute in a pair of conference wins as the Captains clinched the 2017 CAC regular season crown. McCarthy picked up an assist on the game-tying goal against Mary Washington and was part of defense that gave up just six shots on-goal in two road games this week. CNU has now run its program record unbeaten streak to 16 games (15-0-1) and clinch fifth straight CAC regular season title ... Freshman Brooke Bauman posted a goal and an assist this week for Mary Washington, who split with St. Mary's and Christopher Newport. She has six goals and three assists on the year as the Eagles' leader in both categories ... As a defender, Marymount sophomore Gabby Cabrales scored the lone goal for the Saints this past week for her third on the season, placing her second on the team behind sophomore Karen Reyes ... St. Mary's freshman Alex Moody put in her first multiple-goal game of the season as Moody scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in an important 4-1 CAC win over Wesley. She now ranks second on the team in goals (3) and points (7) ... Salisbury senior Hope Knussman recorded eight saves and held the top two teams in the CAC (CNU & Frostburg State) to only three goals last week ... Southern Virginia junior goalkeeper Merideth Ouellette was 1-1 last week and only allowed two goals. Sophomore Taylor Mercer scored the Knights only goal of the week with the game-winner at Marymount. She leads the Knights in shots this year ... Krista Salvadore made 25 saves in two games for Wesley. Salvadore leads the CAC in saves with 113 ... York junior Caitlin Rankin had a big game for the Spartans in the 4-0 win over Wesley on Wednesday. Rankin scored twice in the second half for the Spartans. For the season, Rankin leads the Spartans with 14 points on six goals and two assists.
