Christopher Newport junior Carson Pokorny has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Women's soccer team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Tuesday (Nov. 4). Pokorny, also this year's Elite 90 Award winner for women's soccer, earned first team accolades.

Christopher Newport University junior Carson Pokorny added another prestigious individual accolade to her mantel on Thursday night as the NCAA announced the Captains' starting midfielder as the 2018 recipient of the Elite 90 award. Pokorny is the first CNU athlete in any sport to earn the honor, recognizing the CNU third-year at the NCAA Division III Soccer National Championship Banquet in Greensboro, N.C.

As the Christopher Newport women's soccer team continues it's historic season as a team, a pair of Captains made their own bit of history on Thursday night as sophomore Riley Cook and senior Gabby Gillis were named first team All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches. During the NCAA Division III National Championship banquet, the Captains learned they each had earned All-American plaudits, marking the first time in CNU soccer history that a pair of Captains were named All-Americans in the same season.

The United Soccer Coaches announced the 2018 Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year on Tuesday afternoon, recognizing the Christopher Newport women's soccer staff as the top unit in the South Atlantic Region. Head coach Dan Weiler, with assistants Jamie Gunderson, Erin Wojtkun, and Shawn Trueblood, has led the Captains to an historic season in 2018 as CNU readies to play in the program's first-ever NCAA national semifinal.

Playing in front of a record-breaking crowd at Captains Field on a chilly Saturday night, the 11th-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team made program history with a 1-0 win over 17th-ranked University of Lynchburg to advance to the program's first ever national semifinals. The game-winning goal came with less than ten minutes remaining in the thrilling contest, as senior Gabby Gillis found sophomore Riley Cook for the score in the 81st minute.
