Christopher Newport Three-Peats as CAC Women's Soccer Champions

2018 CAC Women's Soccer Tournament Bracket

Top-seeded Christopher Newport defeated second-seeded Mary Washington 3-1 to secure its third consecutive CAC Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday night at Captains Field.

With the win, CNU becomes the first team to three-peat as CAC Women's Soccer Championships since the 2002-04 season when Mary Washington capped off a run of four straight conference titles. CNU (17-1) earns the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the victory. The 64-team bracket will be announced live on NCAA.com this Monday, at 1:30 pm.

The Captains will be making the program's 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fifth in six seasons under head coach Dan Weiler.

Kristina Toms opened the scoring for the Captains just prior to halftime, finishing a feed from Hailey Price in the 44th minute to give CNU a 1-0 edge at the intermission. Carson Pokorny made it 2-0 CNU in the 57th minute off an assist from Maddie Cochran.

In the 67th minute, UMW pulled with a 2-1 deficit as Abby Zimmerman finished a cross from Corinne Carson, but Riley Cook put the Captains back out to a two-goal margin in the 73rd minute by beating a pair of defenders at the top corner of the box for the final 3-1 margin for CNU.
