Christopher Newport and Mary Washington Defend Home Fields, Earn CAC Women's Soccer Semifinal Victories

Top seeds Christopher Newport and Mary Washington each registered home victories in Wednesday's CAC semifinals, setting up a championship showdown on Saturday in Newport News, Va. The Captains and Eagles will meet for the first time ever in the title game, which is set for 6 p.m. at Captains Field. 

Saturday will mark CNU's third-straight title-game appearance and fourth overall since joining the CAC in 2013, while UMW will make its 18th appearance in the championship round and first since 2015. 

In Newport News, Va., top-seeded Christopher Newport (16-1) blanked fifth-seeded Salisbury (7-10-1) 3-0, sending the Captains to the championship for the third year in a row. Riley Cook led CNU with two goals, while Kristina Toms added the other score for the Captains. 

In Fredericksburg, Va., Mary Washington freshman Abby Zimmerman scored a pair of goals to lift the second-seeded Eagles (12-3-1) past sixth-seeded St. Mary's (8-11-1) 3-2 at the Battleground.
