CNU's Cook & McCarthy Sweep CAC Women's Soccer Weekly Recognition

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2019 women's soccer season. Christopher Newport junior forward Riley Cook earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the third time this year, while CNU senior defender Keiley McCarthy claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Riley Cook - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport junior forward Riley Cook registered another record-setting performance in a 7-0 win against St. Mary's (Md.) when she tied the program record for goals in a game for the second time this season. She is the only player ever to score four goals in a game twice and did so in rapid fashion, scoring all four goals in a span of 20:42. Cook set a record for the fastest three consecutive goals scored by the same player when she earned the hat trick in just 9:35. Withe the impressive single-game effort, Cook took her place atop the junior scoring charts at CNU with a record-breaking 21 goals and 44 points. Already the program's record holder for points and goals in a season by a freshman and sophomore, the Captains' all-time leading scorer made it 3-for-3 with her junior year performance. She took 17 shots during the week, putting 7 on frame, as CNU improved to 13-1-2 overall.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Keiley McCarthy - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior defender Keiley McCarthy scored the game-winning goal against St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday with her first goal of the season. McCarthy received the ball around midfield and raced down the left side toward the top of the box before smashing a laser into the back of the net. She also led the Captains back line in a pair of shutout victories, playing all but 11 minutes in the two games. The defense allowed just seven shots on-goal in the two games while securing the 10th and 11th shutouts of the season.
