CNU's Cochran, Salisbury's Hill Tabbed CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2019 women's soccer season. Christopher Newport junior forward Madison Cochran earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Salisbury junior goalkeeper Emma Hill claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Madison Cochran - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport junior forward Madison Cochran put together one of the most impressive performances of her career with nine points in two games as she helped lead the third-ranked Captains to a pair of conference wins. First, in a 10-0 victory against Southern Virginia, Madison scored twice and assisted on a third goal for five points. Then, while taking on Mary Washington, Cochran connected on the game-winning goal and added another goal later in the contest. She ripped seven shots and put four on-frame during the week. Cochran now ranks second on the team in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Emma Hill - Salisbury

Salisbury junior goalkeeper Emma Hill registered a pair of shutouts in Salisbury's 2-0 week in conference play after she played all 180 minutes in net. She tallied four saves on Wednesday against Mary Washington and added two saves on Saturday at St. Mary's. Hill has totaled six shutouts this season. This marks the third time this season Hill has garnered CAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

LEAGUE NOTES

Christopher Newport junior keeper Haley Eiser helped CNU post a pair of shutouts in conference play this week against Southern Virginia and Mary Washington. Played into the second half against Southern Virginia with two saves to pick up the win before playing the full 90 minutes against Mary Washington. She earned a shutout with three saves against the Eagles. She improved to 10-0-2 on the season with six shutouts and a 0.26 goals-against average while leading the Captains defense, which has allowed just three goals this season...York senior Natalie McCarthy had a great week for the Spartans as York went 1-1 in two home games. She began the week with the only goal the Spartans would need in their 2-0 win over St. Mary's. McCarthy scored in the 11th minute of the game and that stood up as the Spartans picked up their first CAC win of the year. On Saturday, McCarthy was the Spartan offense in the loss to Southern Virginia as she scored both Spartan goals. She opened the scoring early for the second game in a row as she netted the first goal of the game in the tenth minute of play. After SVU had taken at 3-1 lead, McCarthy drew the Spartans to within one goal with her second tally of the game in the 72nd minute. For the week, McCarthy had three goals on seven shots and one game-winning goal. Fro the season, McCarthy has a team-leading 15 points on six goals and three assists. She has two of York's four game-winning goals for the year...Ally Goetz scored the lone goal on Wednesday in Salisbury's 1-0 win over Mary Washington and tallied an assist in a 4-0 win over St. Mary's on Saturday...Tori Wescott led the Southern Virginia offense on the week with a pair of goals on the road as the team won its first CAC game of the season. Her second goal against the Spartans would be the deciding goal for her second game-winning goal of the year. The sophomore is currently positioned fourth in the CAC with five goals following her first multiple goal game.
