KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Making history yet again on Thursday night, Christopher Newport junior Riley Cook was named a second team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches to become just the second player in program lore to earn multiple All-American plaques in her career. Cook joins former teammate Gabby Gillis as the only players in 23 years of women's soccer at Christopher Newport to garner the national recognition more than once.

Earlier this week, Cook set a new standard for Christopher Newport by becoming the first student-athlete to earn first team All-Region accolades in each of her first three seasons. The 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year was one of just 16 junior All-Americans as announced by the coaches association on Thursday night.

Cook followed up her sensational sophomore season with another eye-popping campaign as a junior. One of the top scoring threats in the nation, the Captains' forward ranked fourth nationally in total goals, with 26, and seventh nationally in total points, with 55. She scored a program-record 26 goals in the season, besting her own record from a year ago by one goal, and added three assists during the season.

Along the way, she became the single game, single season, and career record holder for goals scored and points totaled. With four goals and an assist against Southern Virginia this year, Cook recorded the program's first ever 9-point performance. In back-to-back games in late September, she passed Emma O'Reilly for the top spot in career goals and then surpassed Victoria Perry for the program points record.

Over the course of her career, Cook has proven herself as one of the top offensive players in the nation in all of NCAA play including Division I, II and III. She ranks first among active non-seniors in goals scored and tied for third in career points. Even including players who have played four years, Cook ranks seventh nationally in goals and tied for 13th in points with 66 goals and 145 points. She is already the all-time leader in goals and points scored in Capital Athletic Conference history with a year left to play.

As a junior, Cook led one of the nation's top offenses, ranking 21st in scoring, while posting conference-best marks in goals, points, and game-winning goals. She added seven gamewinners in her third year to extend her program-record mark to 24, which ranks among the best in the nation. Cook was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week once this season and was the CAC Player of the Week on four separate occasions. She earned first team All-Conference honors for the third consecutive season.

Cook was one of only four players to start all 22 games this season and ranked second among all field players in total minutes played. She logged 1,668 minutes of play while taking a program-record 166 total shots to rank third nationally in total attempts. She put 77 of her shots on-frame for a .464 on-goal percentage.

Christopher Newport posted a 16-3-3 overall record and went 8-1-1 in conference play during Cook's third season. The Captains earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and reached the second round of the postseason tournament after a 2-0 win over Worcester State in the opening round.
