Christopher Newport’s Heaton, Sidaway Sweep C2C Women's Soccer Players of the Week
The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2024 women's soccer season. Christopher Newport's Hanna Heaton was named C2C Offensive Player of the Week, while the Captains Amy Sidaway captured C2C Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hanna Heaton, Christopher Newport
Christopher Newport junior Hanna Heaton scored the game-winning goal against Texas-Dallas before adding a goal and an assist on the game clincher against Ohio Northern. She finished the Texas-Dallas game, a 3-0 triumph, with a brace, scoring twice against the Comets on four shots with three on-goal. Then, in the 3-1 victory versus Ohio Northern, she scored the game's first goal with a bullet from the top of the box before assisting on the eventual winner scored by Alex Dalakis. Heaton finished the week with nine shots and six on target.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Amy Sidaway, Christopher Newport
Christopher Newport sophomore Amy Sidaway played every minute of the two wins for Christopher Newport this week and earned her second shutout of the season with a clean sheet against Texas-Dallas. Sidaway carried the load for the second longest shutout streak to start a season in program history before Ohio Northern got on the board in the second half, snapping the run at just over 338 minutes. She and the CNU defense have allowed just 17 total shots in four games (4.25 per game) and have surrendered only seven shots on-goal (1.75 per game) this season.
