Frostburg's Weinberger Captures Second Google Cloud Academic All-American Honor

Frostburg swimmer Maddie Weinberger captured her second-consecutive Google Cloud Academic All-American award on Wednesday when she was named to the 2018-19 Division III Women's At-Large Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mary Washington senior Jeff Leckrone and York sophomore Keven Stahl and junior Justine Wantz have been selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming Championships. The championships will be held March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. A total of 579 participants (526 swimmers and 53 divers) will compete in the championships.

The Mary Washington women's swimming kept its record winning streak at the CAC Championships intact on Sunday at St. Mary's, compiling 1065 points to claim its 29th consecutive title. The Eagles are the only team have ever won the title in the 29-year history of the CAC, the only team across all conference sports to hold such a streak.

University of Mary Washington's Carley Vaughn won three individual races and a relay as Mary Washington defeated Gettysburg on Saturday with a 149-112 win, capping the regular season with a 9-1 record. After being part of the winning 400 medley relay that touched out at 4:03.84, Vaughn placed first in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:01.91, while also placing first in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:12.88, and in the 100 yard butterfly with a 59.68 time of finish.

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected a record 713 teams from 460 institutions to the Scholar All-America Team for the Fall 2018 semester. The teams were selected by the CSCAA’s Scholar All-America committee on the basis of their Fall grade point averages and represent 16,502 student-athletes.

University of Mary Washington's Claudia Keller has turned in two outstanding meets since of the new year, as the Eagles defeated Salisbury and St. Mary's. In the win over the Seahawks, Keller took first in the 1000 yard freestyle at 10:53.84, as the Eagles finished 1-2-3-4, and also won the 200 yard backstroke at 2:14.59, at the start of an Eagle sweep. In UMW's win over Salisbury, Keller took first in the 1000 freestyle at 11:04.90 and finished third in the 500 freestyle.

University of Mary Washington junior Carley Vaughn continued to impress this weekend at the Gettysburg College Invitational. She took first place in the 100 yard butterfly at 57.91 and the 200 butterfly at 2:06.14, and was second in the 200 IM at 2:11.93, was part of the winning 200 medley relay team, and was part of the winning 400 medley relay team that won to clinch the overall title for the Eagles. Her time in the 200 fly ranks her 15th in the nation to this point in the season.

York junior Justine Wantz had another big weekend at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational this past weekend in Lancaster. Wantz earned a win and notched a second place finish as the Spartans finished third of 13 teams at the event. Wantz won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:02.97 as she now owns the top time in the event in the CAC. That time is the fourth best time in the country. She set a new school record in the 100 backstroke with her time of 57.86 in Saturday's preliminary. Wantz swam a time of 57.88 in the finals which was good for second. That time is the 11th fastest time in the country. Wantz also set a school record in the 50 backstroke with her opening split of 27.04 in the 200 medley relay. Wantz also swam leadoff on three relay teams that all earned top six finishes.

Mary Washington was once again the unanimous choice among conference head coaches to collect CAC hardware in the 2018-19 CAC Women's Swimming Preseason Poll. The Eagles enter this season riding a 28-year winning streak atop the conference, and are the only team across all CAC sports to have won the team title in each of the 28 years of the CAC’s existence.

The fall golf season is winding down with only a few tournaments left on the slate, while the swimming campaign is just getting started with four of the five CAC teams opening up their seasons this past weekend. This week's CAC weekly awards were given to Carson Castelli of Christopher Newport men's golf, Erica Whitehouse of Christopher Newport women's golf, Jeffrey Leckrone of Mary Washington men's swimming, and Justine Wantz of York women's swimming.

York College Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia is happy to announce that Eric Rasmussen has been named the new head swimming coach/aquatics director at York College. Rasmussen comes to York with over 25 years of coaching and aquatic experience.

Justin Anderson has been named as the head men's and women's swimming coach at the University of Mary Washington, according to interim Director of Athletics Patrick Catullo. Anderson, a 2010 UMW graduate, returns to his alma mater after five seasons as head coach at Frostburg State University.
