Salisbury's Jackie Burr Captures CAC Weekly Women's Tennis Honor For Second Time This Season

Salisbury junior JACKIE BURR (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season after going 6-0 last week at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions, including four wins in CAC matches. Burr helped the Sea Gulls, ranked #11 in the region, lock up the second seed in the CAC Tournament with wins over St. Marys and Wesley. For the season, Burr is 10-5 at first singles and 16-3 at doubles, including a 13-2 mark at first doubles with teammate Anna Marie Kable.

Mary Washington senior BECKY MORSE-KARZEN (Wilmette, Ill./NewTrier) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season after helping the 10th-ranked Eagles to shutout victories over St. Marys and Salisbury. In the win over St. Marys, Morse-Karzen won at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Kate Malpeli to win at one doubles, 8-1. In the win at Salisbury, Morse-Karzen won at one singles, 6-3, 6-0, and at one doubles, 8-2.

Mary Washington senior KATE MALPELI (Vienna, Va./George C. Marshall) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 over the weekend, including three wins against CAC rivals. She helped the Eagles to four shutout victories, winning singles matches in straight sets against Wesley and Hood as well as doubles matches against Hood and York.

Mary Washington senior BECKY MORSE-KARZEN (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week after going 3-0 in both singles and doubles and leading the Eagles to a pair of victories over nationally-ranked opponents at the Fab Five Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. The 9th-ranked Eagles wrapped wins against 15th-ranked Washington Univ. and 16th-ranked DePauw around a loss to 4th-ranked Univ. of Chicago. Morse-Karzen won her singles matches in straight-sets against Washington U. and Univ. of Chicago, then needed to rally from a first-set loss in the DePauw match to stay undefeated for the weekend.
Salisbury Junior Rachel Iosue Named CAC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week

Salisbury junior RACHEL IOSUE (Damascus, Md./Damascus) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week after recording eight wins in 10 matches during the teams Spring Break trip to California. Iosue went 5-0 at No. 2 singles and was 3-2 in second doubles as the Sea Gulls posted a 3-2 record. For the season, Iosue is 7-0 in singles and 6-2 in doubles.

Mary Washington sophomore COURTNEY GOIMARAC (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week after nearly leading #6 Mary Washington to an upset of #2 Washington & Lee on Saturday. Goimarac was responsible for two team points in UMWs 5-4 loss. She opened the match vs. W&L by joining freshman Katie Schafer in topping Ann Morris and Trelsie Sadler, 9-8 (2) in doubles. Goimarac then beat Ellen Yeatman, 6-1, 6-3, at two singles. Later Saturday, Goimarac won at two singles against Catholic, 6-2, 6-0, and winning 8-0 at two doubles against the Cardinals.

Burr won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, then teamed with Anna Marie Kable to post an 8-3 victory to improve to 2-0 this season at No. 1 doubles.

Mary Washington freshman KATIE SCHAFER (New Market, Md./Linganore) was named the CAC Womens Tennis Player of the Week after winning two of three singles matches at the first-ever ITA Indoor National Tournament at St. Peter, Minn. Schafer defeated Gustavus Adolphus Allie ONeal, 6-4, 6-1 in the first round, and then scored UMWs lone point in a 8-1 loss to Emory University with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kirsten Hillock.
