Frostburg State Women's Tennis Edges Hood, 5-4, To Secure The 5th Seed In The 2012 CAC Championship Tournament

The Frostburg State men's and women's tennis teams have both earned a spot in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Tournament that starts this weekend. Both squads earned the fifth seed and both will face fourth seeded York in the opening round.

Both FSU tennis teams defeated Hood this week to gain the playoff nods.  The men's team topped the Blazers Tuesday, 9-0, and the women's team defeated Hood Thursday, 5-4.

Both results lifted York into the No. 4 position and a home match in the 2012 CAC playoffs, which begin this weekend.  FSU's women's team actually tied York for fourth place, but the Spartans gained the higher seed because of a head-to-head victory during the regular season.

Stevenson also benefitted from the FSU vs. Hood results, clinching the No. 6 seed in both tournaments.  Stevenson edged Hood for sixth place on the men's side, but the Mustangs and Blazers tied for sixth in the women's standings.  Stevenson gained the advanage into the women's playoff tournament by virtue of a regular-season head-to-head win over Hood.

Women's first-round matches are slated for Saturday while men's first-round matches are scheduled for Sunday.
