Mary Washington Women's Tennis Captures Its 11th-Straight CAC Crown With An 8-1 Victory Over Salisbury

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches in claiming the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, their 11th straight league crown, with an 8-1 victory over third-seeded Salisbury (12-8).

The Eagles opened with doubles wins from Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris at one, 8-2, and from Ashley Barrow and Mackenzie Smith at three, 8-1. The Eagles fell in a tiebreaker, 10-8, at two.

In singles, Raulston reversed a regular season loss in winning at one in a superbreaker, 10-6, while the rest of the lineup cruised in straight sets. Harris won at two, 6-1, 6-0, Smith won at three, 6-2, 6-1; and Alex Ritter won at four, 6-0, 6-2. Chrissy Gaul won at five, 6-0, 6-0, and Berri Flood won at six, 6-1, 6-4.

The Eagles claim the CAC title for the 11th straight year, and 22nd time overall. They will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 16th consecutive year.

Katie Youlios and Allison Lutz battled for a 9-8 (8) victory at No. 2 doubles for the Sea Gulls' lone point.
