Mary Washington Women's Tennis Moves Past Trinity (TX), 5-1, in NCAA Tournament Second Round

The 21st-ranked Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Trinity (Tx) 5-1 on Friday at the Ed Hegmann Tennis Complex.

Mary Washington took two of three doubles matches to earn the win. The Eagles move to 18-7 on the year and will face the winner of Johns Hopkins-SUNY Geneseo tomorrow.

Mackenzie Smith and Ashley Barrow got the scoring started with an 8-6 win at three doubles against Caroline White and Gabrielle Roe. Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris provided the match of the day at one doubles. The duo found themselves down 6-3 early. The two clawed back to pull it to 6-5, before ultimatley winning 9-8 (7-4) to give UMW a 2-1 lead.

Raulston, Alex Ritter, and Berri Flood sealed the victory for the Eagles. Ritter gave UMW a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win against White. Raulston rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at one singles over Kylie Hornbeck. Berri Flood clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at six singles against Lavinia Bendandi.

The Eagles move on to the NCAA Tournament Third Round against the winner of Johns Hopkins and SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
