Christopher Newport Women's Tennis Tops Salisbury, 6-3, in Battle for No. 2 Seed

In one of the strangest tennis box scores you will see, Christopher Newport rallied past Salisbury 6-3 in CAC women's tennis action on Thursday at the SU Tennis Courts. Trailing 3-0 after doubles play, the Captains swept all six singles points to claim the 6-3 triumph and earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament.

As a result, CNU (13-5, 6-1 CAC) will host third-seeded Salisbury (13-6, 5-2 CAC) for a rematch in next Wednesday's semifinals. Match time is yet to be determined.

The CAC Tournament will open up this Saturday, with No. 4 St. Mary's (9-6, 4-3 CAC) hosting No. 5 Southern Virginia (8-8, 3-4 CAC) at 10 a.m. The St. Mary's/Southern Virginia winner will travel to No. 1 Mary Washington for Wednesday's other semifinal.

After Salisbury swept the doubles action with close wins at all three spots, including a 9-8 (7-4) triumph at No. 2 for Claudia Lohn and Charlotte Walker, the Captains came roaring back in singles play.

CNU's McKinney Harwood (No. 1), Alexandra Drye (No. 2), Katie Carlson (No. 3), Kate Huck (No. 4) and Meili Konell (No. 5) posted straight-set singles victories, while No. 6 Isabelle Wessel outlasted SU's Walker in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
