Stinner And Tavik Each Win Two Events To Lead Salisbury To It's Second-Straight CAC Women's Track & Field Crown

Salisbury junior Becca Stinner along with freshman Kara Tolson and Chelsea Tavik each won two events in leading Salisbury to its second-straight CAC Women's Track & Field Championship.

The Sea Gulls successfully defended their 2010 crown, the first in team history, by scoring 213 points, easily outdistancing second-place York (148).  Mary Washington tallied 115 points for third place, followed by Wesley (56), Frostburg State (38), Hood (19) and Stevenson (17).

It was the first time in CAC history that seven teams competed for the women's track & field championship.

Stinner and Tolson led the Gulls on the track.  Stinner won the 800 (2:24.17) and 3,000-meter runs (11:52.40) while Tolson crossed the finish line first in the 200 and ran the third leg of the gold medal 4x400 relay team.  Joining Tolson on the winning relay were Whitney Handy, Courtney Donnelly and Claire Lawrence.

Senior Liz Tollett added a victory in the 10,000-meter run for the Sea Gulls on the track.

Tavik picked up two of Salisbury's three gold medals in field events, taking top honors in the shot put (12.62m) and hammer throw (39.82).  Erika Gerhold also added first-place points in the pole vault.

York freshman Laura Rowlands was the top medalist Saturday, winning three field events and running the third leg of the victorious 4x100 relay team.  Rowlands swept the long jump, high jump and triple jump gold medals.

Another Spartan newcomer, Kenyetta Redman, was a two-time winner in the championship, crossing the finish line first in he 100-meter dash and running the second leg of the 4x100 relay.  Joining Rowlands and Redman on the 4x100 relay were Allyson Montello and Donteris Spence.

Two other first-place finishers for YCP were Mandy Parshall in the 5,000-meter run and Loreta Tonuzi in the javelin.

Mary Washington picked up three first-place awards on the track as Sarah Dawes in the 1,500, Kaytlen Keller in the 400 and Michelle Sutherland in the 400 hurdles all took top honors.

Tamisha Thomas and Ashley Cooper of Wesley each picked up one first-place award.  Thomas was first in the 100 hurdles and Cooper captured top honors in the discus.
