Salisbury's Chelsea Tavik Places 10th In Shot Put At NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

Salisbury University sophomore Chelsea Tavik traveled to Capital University to take part in the women's shot put competition at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Tavik was seeded 14th entering the competition and though she just missed the finals, she took a step forward in her career, placing 10th in the competition with a top distance of 43' 9.25".

The top nine throwers from the preliminary rounds moved on to the final round; Tavik was just nine inches short of advancing.

Tavik is currently the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor shot put; during the 2010-11 indoor season, she broke the indoor shot record three different times. Her top mark currently stands at 44' 6.5".

Tavik will get back to work next Saturday as the Sea Gulls will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Wake Forest Invitational, their first road meet of the outdoor season.
