York's Mandy Parshall And Salisbury's Chelsea Tavik Gain CAC Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards

York senior MANDY PARSHALL and Salisbury sophomore CHELSEA TAVIK were selected as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week for April 12, 2011. Parshall was picked as the CAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after breaking two school records in distance races at Shippensburg’s Paul Kaiser Classic. Parshall crossed the finish line in the 5,000-meter run in 18:46.44, nearly a half minute faster than her CAC championship time, and added a team record in the 3K by crossing the finish line in 10:56.32. Tavik, the CAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, shattered her school record in the shot put by more than 2 1/2 feet to finish ninth overall against NCAA Division I, II and III competitors at the Penn Relays. Tavik’s toss of 44-7 1/2 was an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying.

Wesley sophomore TWILA McCREA and Salisbury sophomore CHELSEA TAVIK were selected as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week for April 12, 2011. McCrea was picked as the CAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after breaking the team record in the 400-meter dash (1:03.14) and anchoring the 4x400-meter relay team that set another team record, crossing the finish line in 4:38.68. Tavik was named the CAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after gaining a gold medal in the shot put (41-6), silver in the discus (106-0) and bronze in the hammer (117-8) at the West Chester Golden Rams Invitational.

York senior MANDY PARSHALL and freshman teammate LAURA ROWLANDS were selected as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 29, 2011. Parshall was picked as the CAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after competing in two meets Saturday. She crossed the finish line first in the 3,000-meter run (11:19.43) at the Goucher Invitational, and competed in a pair of events - the 800 (14th place, 2:27.40) and the 1,500 (7th place, 4:52.55) against primarily NCAA Division I competition at the Towson Invitational. Rowlands was named the CAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning two events and adding a third for the second-place Spartans at the Goucher Invitational. She gained top honors in the high jump (1.57m) and triple jump (10.47) while gaining a bronze medal in the long jump (4.81m).

York freshman KENYATTA REDMAN and Hood freshman MEGHAN ROSE were selected as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 21, 2011. Redman is the CAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after she registered strong performances in meets on consecutive days this weekend. She won the 200 (27.45) and finished second in the 100 (13.15) at LVC. Saturday at West Chester’s Golden Ram Invitational, Redman finished fifth in the 100 (12.94) and contributed to a second-place 4x100 relay team. Rose, the top-ranked thrower in the CAC, is the CAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after she placed in all four throwing disciplines at Mary Washington’s Battleground Relays, including a win in the discus (114-10) and a school-record performance in the shot put (38-1 1/2). She also posted personal bests in the javelin and hammer throw.

Salisbury junior HOLLY DEFNET, Salisbury freshman KARA TOLSON and Stevenson freshman JULIE EGONU were selected as the CAC Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 14, 2011. Defnet is the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after scoring in six events at the Sea Gulls’ season-opening Spring Classic. In the nine-team meet, Defnet won the triple jump (34-10), took second in the shot put (34-3 3/4), then added points in the long jump (third), hammer (fifth), discus (seventh) and javelin (eighth). Tolson and Egonu are the CAC Co-Track Athletes of the Week after taking the top two places in the sprints at the Salisbury Spring Classic. Egonu won the 100 (13.20), finished second to Tolson in the 200 and edged Tolson and the long jump. Tolson flipped positions, winning the 200 (26.77), finished second to Egonu in the 100 and the long jump and won the high jump.
