Salisbury All-American Chelsea Tavik Wins Two Events On First Day Of 2012 CAC Women's Track & Field Championships

Salisbury All-American Chelsea Tavik won two gold medals in throwing events Saturday to help the Sea Gulls take the lead in the team standings of the 2012 CAC Women's Track & Field Championships at Frostburg State University.

Salisbury scored 68 points in five events Saturday to take a lead over second place Mary Washington (36), York (27), Frostburg State (17.5), Hood (5.5), Wesley (1) and Stevenson (0).

Tavik won both the shot put (45-2 1/4) and hammer throw (152-1) to lead the Gulls.  She led a sweep of the top five positions for Salisbury in the hammer throw, and five of the top seven places in the shot put.

Frostburg State's Samantha Taylor took top honors in the pole vault (10-6), York's Laura Rowlands was first in the triple jump (38-5) and Mary Washington's Tara Landy captured the gold medal in the 10,000-meter run (41:24.88).
