The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its Capital One Academic All-American teams and senior Jennifer Houghton claimed cross country/track & field third-team honors.

To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter of key reserve, maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have reached sophomore athletic and academic status at his/her current institution.

Houghton was named to the Capital One All-District team in late May, making her eligible for the national ballot.

This marks the 19th Academic All-American for Salisbury University since 2001, and the first for a cross country/track & field student-athlete.

She is the eighth CAC student-athlete named to one of the Capital One Academic All-American teamss during the 2011-12 academic year. 

During the fall season, Stevenson women's soccer scoring leader Stephanie Eyler and Wesley volleyball standout Carle Ax were honored. 

Earlier in the spring season, Frostburg State sophomore first baseman Caitlyn Lovend was named to the softball team, Stevenson's Justin Anderson and Tony Prescott were selected as second-team honorees on the Baseball team and Marymount senior swimmer Anna Macedonia and FSU junior field hockey goalie Maggie Edwards were named to the Women's At-Large squad.

Houghton, who was named Salisbury's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year this spring, finished her academic career with a 4.00 grade-point average as she earned communications and marketing degrees. She was honored nine times by the Capital Athletic Conference with All-CAC recognition and had a strong senior season, breaking a seven-year-old school record in the hammer throw and was a All-CAC second-team honoree in three events.
