Tavik, Tolson And Stinner Lead Salisbury Women's Track To The 2012 CAC Crown

All-American thrower Chelsea Tavik and sprinter Kara Tolson each won four events in two days while distance standout Becca Stinner each picked up three gold medals to lead Salisbury to the 2012 CAC Women's Track & Field title.

Salisbury ran away from the field, scoring 255 points for its third-straight championship.  Mary Washington (124) outdueled York (121) for second place, followed by Frostburg State (53.5), Hood (37.5), Wesley (28) and Stevenson (0).

Tavik won all four throws - shot put, discus, javelin and hammer - to lead the conference with four gold medals.  Senior teammate Jennifer Houghton finished second in three of the four events.

Tolson swept the sprints (100 and 200) and anchored the 4x100 and 4x400 gold medal relays for the Gulls.  Teammate Whitney Handy also participated on the two relays and finished second in the 400-meter dash.

Stinner captured the gold in the 800-meter run, 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run. 

York sophomore Laura Rowlands was also a multiple winner in individual events, capturing top honors in the triple jump and high jump.  Rowlands also finished second in the long jump behind teammate Jasmine Smith.

Other gold medalists included Frostburg State's Samantha Taylor in the pole vault and Carol Morgan in the 400-meter dash, Wesley's Tamisha Thomas in the 100-meter hurdles, Mary Washington's Tara Landy in the 10,000-meter run and Michelle Sutherland in the 400-meter hurdles and York's Mandy Parshall in the 1,500-meter run.
