York Freshman Jasmine Smith Finishes 22nd In The Long Jump At The NCAA Women's Track & Field Championships

York College women's track & field freshman standout Jasmine Smith competed in her first NCAA Outdoor National Championships on Thursday as she leapt 5.34 meters (17' 6.25") and finished 22nd overall.

Smith put together a tremendous rookie campaign.  Most notably, she became the first woman Spartan in the history of the York College track & field program to ever qualify for the NCAA National Championships in any event.

During the year, she picked up Capital Athletic Conference titles in both the indoor and outdoor long jumps while she was named the league's Outdoor Rookie of the Year on the women's side.  She established new program records in both the indoor (5.33 meters) and outdoor (5.69 meters) long jump, respectively.

In total, Smith put her name in the Spartan record book in eight events this season, which, along with the long jump, included a number of sprinting events during both the indoor and outdoor campaigns.
