Salisbury's Chelsea Tavik And Kara Tolson each set school mark at TCNJ Last Chance Meet

A small contingent of Salisbury University track & field student-athletes traveled to The College New Jersey to compete in the Lions' Last Chance Meet, bringing home two school records.

Junior Chelsea Tavik improved her top mark in the shot put while sophomore Kara Tolson bettered her school record in the 200-meter dash.

Tavik held one of the top efforts in the nation this season, and shot to the top of the list with a 48' 1.25" heave, which claimed the event. Senior Jennifer Houghton placed second with a distance of 40' 8.25". Tavik and Houghton placed second and third in the hammer throw, respectively, with distances of 152' and 149' 11".

Tolson neared the 25-second barrier in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 25.04 seconds, to claim third in the race.

Senior Becca Stinner took second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:40.82, while junior Claire Lawrence finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:21.43).

Senior John Fitzgerald placed 10th in the 1,500-meter run on the men's side, with a time of 4:02.75 while classmate David Toller set a personal record in the race at 4:06.15.

Senior Chris Barnard won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.31 while classmate Jay Drenner finished second in the hammer throw (179' 4") and fourth in the discus (147' 4").

The Sea Gulls now await the announcement of the field for the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Claremont, Calif. The field will be revealed on Sunday, May 20 and the championship meet will run from May 24-26.
