Salisbury's Jennifer Houghton And Wesley's Tristin Burris Named To Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team

Salisbury senior thrower Jennifer Houghton and Wesley junior Tristin Burris were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, the student-athlete must be a key starter or reserve and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point-average.   District II is made up of all Division III schools in the States of Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Houghton, Salisbury's 2011-12 Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, finished her marketing and communications degrees with a 4.00 GPA as she has also claimed nine All-CAC honors in her career, including four first-team selections. This season, Houghton not only broke a school record in the hammer throw which had stood for seven years, she also picked up second-team All-CAC accolades in the hammer, shot put and discus.

A junior from Camden, Del., Burris has maintained a 3.96 grade-point average in Media Arts while standing out at lacrosse, field hockey, cross country and track & field.  She also played softball at Wesley as a freshman. Earlier this month, Burris was also named to the Academic All-District At-Large Team for her efforts in both field hockey and lacrosse.

This Fall during the cross country season, Burris became the second fastest runner in Wesley College history by running a 19:31.90 in the 5K at the Hornet Invitational.  She also won the Delaware State Classic and was named the capital Athletic Conference Runner of the Week after placing third overall at the DSU Invite to open the season.

Burris also ran track & field during the Winter and Spring seasons where she set indoor school-records in the Mile and 3,000m and outdoor records in the 1,500m and 4x400m Relay.
