Salisbury Leads The Way After Day 1 Of The 2013 CAC Men's & Women's Track & Field Championships

Salisbury competitors won five of the 12 first-place awards and took the early lead in the team standings after the first day of competition at the 2013 CAC Men's & Women's Track & Field Championships.

Saturday's Results

Xavier Stinson set a school record in winning the high jump while Chelsea Tavik won the hammer and javelin throws to lead the host Sea Gulls into first place in the team standings.

The SU men scored 60 points for a seven-point lead over Mary Washington (53).  Frostburg State did well in the throws and is third with 44 points, followed by York (17) and Wesley (9).

On the women's side, Salisbury (80) has a 13-point lead over York (67), followed by UMW (35), Wesley (2) and Frostburg State (1).

York won both finals on the track Saturday as Tim Hartung won the men's 10,000-meter run while Jess Miller and Nicole Danielewicz crossed the finish line together in the women's 10K, with Miller being credited with the victory.  Jumper Laura Rowlands won the high jump and was second in the triple jump for the Spartans.

Mary Washington picked up both first place medals in the pole vault as Claire Harrington won the women's competition and Nick Judy topped the men.  Nathaniel Saint-Preux also triple-jumped his way to a gold medal Saturday.

Frostburg State was led by Robert Davis III in the hammer throw.
