Tavik And Tolson Combine For Seven Gold Medals In Leading Salisbury To It Fourth-Straight CAC

Salisbury senior thrower Chelsea Tavik garnered four gold medals and junior sprinter Kara Tolson accepted three first-place awards in leading the host Sea Gulls to their fourth-straight CAC Women's Track & Field Championship.

Salisbury compiled 257 team points to win the team title.  Mary Washington scored 157 points to edge York (150) for second place in the team standings.  Wesley finished fourth with 33 points while Frostburg State was fifth with 14 points.

Tavik took top honors in all four throwing events - shot put, discus, javelin and hammer - to collect 40 team points.  Tolson swept the two sprints - 100 and 200 - and anchored the gold medal 4x400 relay team.  Tolson also gained third-place points in the high jump to total 36 team points.

Other individual winners for the Sea Gulls included Tara Greco in the triple jump, Lauren Snyder in the 400-meter dash, Brooke Schulz in the 400-meter hurdles and Haley Spinapont in the 1,500-meter run.

Laura Rowlands was a three-time gold medalist and Jess Miller won two gold medals for York.  Rowlands captured top honors in the high jump, triple jumps, ran the third leg of the victorious 4x100-meter relay and added a second-place finish in the long jump.  Miller took top honors in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs.

Mary Washington boasted four individual champions in the women's meet, including Claire Harrington in the pole vault, Brooke Thompson in the 100-meter hurdles, Samantha Park in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Kelsey Carter in the 800-meter run.
