Salisbury's Kara Tolson And Wesley's Tristin Burris Named To The Capital One Academic All-District Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Team

Salisbury junior Kara Tolson and Wesley senior Tristin Burris were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Team, on Thursday, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Burris is a senior distance standout from Camden, Del., who boasts a 3.97 cumulative grade point average as a media arts major.

Now a three-time Capital One Academic All-District selection, Burris holds a program-best nine school-records in track & field events, and also is among the best cross country runners in school-history. She has been honored as the CAC Cross Country Runner of the Week four times in her career and won the 2011 DSU Classic, consisting of primarily Division I competition.

Wesley's 2012-13 Female Athlete of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year nominee, Burris was also a four-year member of the Wolverines' field hockey team while also playing three years of lacrosse and two seasons of softball to earn a whopping 20 varsity letters.

Tolson, an elementary education major, was one of 13 Division III student-athletes selected to the District 2 team, with a 3.49 cumulative grade-point average.

On the track, Tolson has had a record-setting season, as she broke the school record in the 200-meter dash during the indoor season and the 100- and 200-meter dashes in the outdoor season.

With a time of 24.81 seconds in the 200 at the Wake Forest Open in March, Tolson was the first woman in school history to break the 25-second mark. The number qualified the Bel Air, Md., native for the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where she broke her own record, running the race in 24.65 seconds.

Heading into her senior season, Tolson is currently the school-record holder in five individual events and is part of four relay records.

To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be a key varsity contributor, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

As an All-District selection, Tolson and Burris are now eligible for selection to the Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in June.
